Thursday, April 9, 2009

For the maiden voyage of Babes in Hi Def, I caught up with Joe, Mike, Ernie, and Steve of Tour Detroit to ask them to share some of what their diggin' musically at the moment.

Coming off the success of their kickoff party, we sat down over a couple pitchers of beer to talk about music, youtube, and their next party to be held May 2nd.

On top of that, we're going to have a special throwdown in the studio to highlight their abilities as astute record selectors.

Hello...

Hi! Since this our first post, we felt it best to let you know what's up with us and what it is that we're up to.

Babes in Hi Def is a new program on WDET HD2 that encourages the best of classic and future antiquity within electronic, rock, funk, and dance music. Josh Dahlberg and Drew Pompa, both of whom share duties over local record label Blank Artists, host the show, which is to be aired Wednesday nights from 9pm-12am.

In the context of this program, the term “babe” isn’t used as to depict the beauty of an individual, rather as slang to reference how exciting or groovy a particular song is, otherwise often referred to as “jams” or “hits”.

Used in a sentence, one could say that, “As an avid Talking Heads fan, Sally feels that there are more babes on The Name of This Band Is Talking Heads than on any other compilation that the band has released”.

In addition to playing inventive music both current and vintage, BiHD will conduct interviews with members of the music community, allowing listeners more in depth information about music and the artists working on their craft.

The inaugural show will air April 15th, 2009 and feature the DJs of Tour Detroit talking about songs which hold significance to them. After that, they'll be throwing down some choice records in our studio.
